Jitter
Jitter, in the context of wireless (and wired) data networking, is the variation in the amount of time that it takes data packets (Voice-over-WLAN packets, for example) to traverse the network and arrive at a destination. Jitter of less than roughly 100 milliseconds can often be accommodated with configuration changes but, beyond 100 ms, conversational problems can be expected in a VoIP wireless connection. Jitter measurement is available from VoIP equipment and through the use of a VoIP network protocol analyzer.
