The Networking World of 1998: When it all began...
Maui Communications Networks LLC is the transition, in 2020, of Connect802 Corporation, originally incorporated as Optimized Engineering Corporation in 1994. The original company was the result of collaboration between three founding partners during the heyday of computer networking technology in the late 1990ʻs. Coming out of Network General Corporation, the creators of the Sniffer Network Protocol Analyzer, the founders worked in the multi-protocol world of TCP/IP, Novell Netware, DecNET, IBM SNA, MicroSoft NetBios, and numerous other protocol environments. The founders saw the need for specialized data communications engineering services and the marketplace and, in 2003, Optimized Engineering Corp was born and, as wireless networking came to market in the early 2000s, the company name was changed to Connect802 to reflect the focus on the 802.11 WiFi engineering market. In 2020, after over 26 years in what was a world-changing technological explosion, the founders decided it was time to step away from day-to-day business operations and pursue less rigorous options. Connect802 ceased operations in 2020 and Joe and Anita Lenk Bardwell created Maui Communications Networks LLC as a business entity through which they could continue to provide consulting and educational services in Hawaii.
